In the end of May 11235 Ltd. ran a workshop for "Allianz Bulgaria", an insurance company. The topic of the workshop was „Techniques for improving predictive models“. The focus was on essentials and new approaches in data modelling, paying special attention to:
- Definitions of modelled event (for ex. probability for insurance renewal) and what’s behind
- What kind of data is required to improve the strength of a model and how to collect it
- How to transform that data (using transforming functions or dimension reduction approach – principal component analyses)
- Details about extracting modelling and validating samples
- Varieties of correlations, which may impact the models’ performance and different methods of exploration
- Finally, different approaches for model development (parametrical and non-parametrical), using second order terms, auto-regression, etc.
Seminar participants enjoyed friendly and productive attitude, some of the presented techniques were ran with insurance industry data and the results were interpreted and debated passionately. At the end of the seminar, everybody shared the intention to use the newly learned practices and expect to see immediate improvements of the models they work with.
